| Purpose |
It is used in microbiology and clinical diagnostics, especially for the detection of acid-resistant bacteria (ARB) such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The purpose of this solution is to allow such bacteria to accumulate in the cell walls and to be seen brightly under a fluorescence microscope. |
| Working Principle
|
It is a staining technique used to visualize acid-fast bacilli using fluorescence microscopy. Acid-fast organisms exhibit a reddish yellow fluorescence color. Although the auramine-rodamine stain is not as specific as the Ziehl-Neelsen stain for acid-fast organisms (e.g. Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Nocardia), it gives faster results, so is often used as a screening tool. |
