Purpose |
It is used for the demonstration of lipids in fresh tissue sections. In particular, the demonstration of fat cells and neutral lipids is a common use. It can also be used to detect abnormal lipid location or entrainment and to differentiate some tumors with excessive amounts of fat cells from others. |
Working Principle
|
Oil Red O is a dye that dissolves in lipid tissue. This makes the fatty parts appear red under the microscope. Propylene glycol protects lipids, allowing accurate examination of cell and tissue samples. |
