| Purpose |
Schaudinn fixative is a classic fixative developed specifically for cytological and parasitological examinations. Its most common use is in stool and cellular smear preparations prepared for the microscopic diagnosis of protozoan parasites (e.g., amoebae, flagellates). |
| Working Principle
|
Schaudinn fixative is typically an alcohol-based solution that rapidly coagulates proteins, thereby stabilizing the cellular structure. The acidic components in the formulation enhance the visibility of nuclear structures and preserve chromatin details. Heavy metal components found in traditional formulations precipitate cellular proteins, increasing the sharpness of cytoplasmic and nuclear details. This combination preserves the morphological structures of protozoa in a diagnostically distinguishable manner. However, due to its heavy metal content, it requires special waste management after use. |
| Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations

Danger. May cause severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. The product may contain toxic and environmentally hazardous heavy metals and flammable alcohol components; it may be harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. If inhaled, the person should be moved to fresh air and kept in a position that allows easy breathing; if symptoms persist, seek medical attention immediately. In case of eye contact, eyes should be flushed immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; if contact lenses are present and can be easily removed, they should be removed and flushing continued; if irritation persists, seek medical attention. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting and seek medical attention immediately. In all cases of exposure or suspected poisoning, seek medical attention immediately and show the product label or Safety Data Sheet to the healthcare professional. |
