| Purpose |
It is a special composite fixative used to preserve the morphological integrity of eye tissues, testicles, the gastrointestinal system, and certain soft tissues. It is frequently preferred in ophthalmic pathology because it helps preserve the retina and other delicate ocular structures without shrinkage. It also contributes to the clear preservation of cellular details and tubular structures in testicular biopsies. |
| Working Principle
|
This fixative typically consists of a combination of formaldehyde, alcohol, and acetic acid. Formaldehyde stabilizes tissue architecture by forming cross-links between proteins. Alcohol enables rapid penetration by coagulating proteins and stops enzymatic degradation. Acetic acid contributes to the preservation of nuclear structures in particular and highlights chromatin details. This triple effect ensures the balanced preservation of both cytoplasmic and nuclear structures; it can also reduce formalin-related shrinkage and hardening artifacts in some sensitive tissues. |
| Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations
|
Danger. May cause severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory tract irritation. The product may contain formaldehyde and flammable alcohol components; if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin, it may be harmful, and prolonged exposure may carry a risk of causing cancer. Avoid breathing the product's vapors or mist. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces. The work area should be well ventilated, preferably using a chemical fume hood. Chemical-resistant protective gloves, appropriate protective clothing, eye protection, and face protection equipment should be used during handling. If contaminated clothing comes into contact with skin or hair, it should be removed immediately and the affected area washed thoroughly with water. If inhaled, the person should be moved to fresh air and kept in a position that allows easy breathing; seek medical attention if symptoms persist. In case of eye contact, immediately rinse eyes thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; if contact lenses are present and can be easily removed, do so and continue rinsing; seek medical attention if irritation persists. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting and seek medical attention immediately. In all cases of exposure or suspected exposure, seek medical advice and show the product label or Safety Data Sheet to the healthcare professional. Due to flammable components, containers should be kept tightly closed and precautions should be taken against static electricity. |
