Working Principle McFarland tubes are reference suspensions with a specific turbidity value. This turbidity value corresponds approximately to a specific bacterial concentration (CFU/mL). Turbidity and actual cell count are not exactly the same for every bacterium. The reasons for these differences are:

• Light scattering properties
