Purpose It is a special fixative used in histology and histochemistry laboratories, particularly for the preservation of carbohydrates, mucopolysaccharides, and certain cellular granules.
Working Principle This fixative generally works with a balanced combination of formaldehyde and alcohol components. Formaldehyde stabilizes tissue architecture by forming cross-links between proteins, while alcohol coagulates proteins, enabling rapid penetration and stopping enzymatic activity. Special ionic or acidic components in the formulation contribute to the retention of glycogen, mucus, and mucopolysaccharides in the tissue. This allows carbohydrate content to be displayed more clearly and reliably in histochemical staining.
Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations Danger. May cause severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory tract irritation. The product may contain formaldehyde and flammable alcohol components; if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin, it may be harmful, and prolonged exposure may carry a risk of causing cancer. Avoid breathing the product's vapors or mist. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces. The work area should be well ventilated, preferably using a chemical fume hood. Chemical-resistant protective gloves, appropriate protective clothing, eye protection, and face protection equipment should be used during handling. If contaminated clothing comes into contact with skin or hair, it should be removed immediately and the affected area washed thoroughly with water. If inhaled, the person should be moved to fresh air and kept in a position that allows easy breathing; if symptoms persist, seek medical attention. In case of eye contact, immediately rinse eyes thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; if contact lenses are present and can be easily removed, do so and continue rinsing; if irritation persists, seek medical attention. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting and seek medical attention immediately. In all cases of exposure or suspected exposure, seek medical advice and show the product label or Safety Data Sheet to the healthcare professional. Due to flammable components, containers should be kept tightly closed and precautions should be taken against static electricity.
