Purpose Used to determine iron +2 and +3 ions in water.
Working Principle
Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations Danger. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Keep away from heat/sparks/flames/hot surfaces. – No smoking. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. IF SWALLOWED: Rinse your mouth. DO NOT induce vomiting. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Immediately remove all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
Ingredients A) Acid Solution: Acetic acid
B) Reducing Solution: Potassium iodide.
C) Indicator: O-phenanthroline

Application 1. Take the measuring cup from the kit box. Add 5 ml of water sample.
2. Add 8 drops of A-Acid Solution and mix. Wait 2 minutes.
3. Add 8 drops of B-Reducing Solution and mix. Wait 2 minutes.
4. Add 8 drops of C-Indicator Solution and mix. Wait 2 minutes. Compare the color formed with the color scale.
For Solid Samples:
1. Take the measuring cup from the kit box. Place a piece of cloth smaller than approximately 20x20mm into the cup.
2. Add 8 drops of A-Acid Solution. Stir with a toothpick. Wait 4 minutes.
3. Add 5 ml of distilled water and stir.
4. Add 8 drops of B-Reducing Solution and mix. Wait 2 minutes.
5. Add 8 drops of C-Indicator Solution and mix. Observe the color change after 2 minutes.
6. Determine whether the color matches any shade on the color scale. The result is qualitative.
Microbiological Properties

The resulting color is compared to the color scale.
