| Purpose |
It is a specially developed histological fixative designed to preserve carbohydrate and mucopolysaccharide content. |
| Working Principle
|
Gendre's Fixative; It is most commonly used in tissues where the visualization of glycogen, mucus, and other water-soluble cellular components is important. It is preferred in liver, intestinal mucosa, respiratory epithelium, and mucus-secreting glandular tissues. It plays an important role in histochemical studies, particularly because it helps preserve tissue content prior to carbohydrate staining such as the PAS (Periodic Acid–Schiff) reaction. Gendre's fixative stabilizes both proteins and carbohydrate structures thanks to its alcohol-based composition containing formaldehyde. Alcohol provides rapid fixation by coagulating cellular proteins and reduces the diffusion of water-soluble substances out of the tissue. Formaldehyde supports tissue architecture and increases structural integrity by forming cross-links between proteins. The acidic components in the formulation contribute to the preservation of glycogen and mucopolysaccharides in particular, making them more visible during staining. |
| Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations
|
Danger. May cause severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. The product may contain flammable alcohol components and toxic chemicals; it may be harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause adverse health effects and may contain substances that pose a cancer risk. Avoid breathing the product's vapors or mist. Keep away from fire, sparks, and hot surfaces; ensure the work area is well ventilated. Chemical-resistant protective gloves, appropriate protective clothing, eye protection, and face protection equipment should be used during use.
If contaminated clothing comes into contact with skin or hair, it should be removed immediately and the affected area washed thoroughly with water. If inhaled, the person should be moved to fresh air and kept in a position that allows easy breathing; if symptoms persist, seek medical attention. In case of eye contact, eyes should be rinsed thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; if contact lenses are present and can be easily removed, they should be removed and rinsing continued; if irritation persists, seek medical attention. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; rinse the mouth and seek medical attention immediately. In all cases of exposure or suspected exposure, seek medical advice and show the product label or Safety Data Sheet to the healthcare professional. |
